Strawberry Rhubarb Heavenly Heaven

Every once in a while I will post something here that is not at all helpful for you becoming a better informed person or parent. It won't be about how to help you maintain your cool under pressure or what the latest research is on introducing traditional food allergens to kids. It will just be fun.

In this case, it's both fun AND delicious. And actually in that sense we are helping you become a better parent because every parent should know how to talk about eating in moderation. Yes. That's it ... today we're going to talk about eating in moderation. Eating strawberry rhubarb anything in moderation, to be exact.

For this national Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day, I've collected some of my favorite recipes (pie and non-pie alike) in case you feel like joining me in practicing moderation after dinner tonight. For me, teaching my kids about moderation while eating sometimes looks like giving everyone a serving and then me having another after the kids are tucked quietly in bed :).

Bon Appetite!

  • A classic strawberry rhubarb pie recipe is, of course, a must. One of my favorite is actually from my mother's (very old) Betty Crocker Cookbook. This one come pretty darn close.

  • Deb Perelman, of Smitten Kitchen, has an incredible recipe for strawberry rhubarb crisp bars. (Don't say I didn't warn you.)

  • Ina Garten never fails to deliver on deliciousness and this strawberry rhubarb crisp recipe is no exception.

  • For the kiddos? Strawberry rhubarb creamsicles.

  • How about a strawberry rhubarb sauce served over a classic lemon poundcake? Oh yeah, I went there ...

  • If you're feeling particularly adventurous, these strawberry rhubarb meringue tartlets from Completely Delicious might be right up your ally.

  • Don't relegate the flavors to dessert. Bring them to the breakfast table (tomorrow is ok) with these scones.

  • And in case you are the type that just isn't into desserts (crazy talk, I know), you might like this strawberry rhubarb soda syrup. (We aim to please!)
